Planning for retirement

Having been inspired by various Youtube channels, books and thinking about the future I am really interested in retiring in Sweden. I currently live in the UK, but am Dutch national. Retirement is still about 10 years away as I want to make sure I can put my kids through university and set them up for their own lives.

My aim would be to live in a tiny home and be as self-reliant as possible. The dream would be to have some forest land and be able to put up a tiny home, but I think each kommuner has their own rules and building regulations. The other option would be to buy some land with a house and then put up a tiny home for myself.

Does anybody have any experience with living in tiny homes in Sweden? Any suggestions, resources or lessons learnt would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to message me or leave a comment. I will have to rely on google translate for now, but time to brush up on Swedish as well

There is a planning & building legislation that is common for the country.

It requires you to have a building permit for the 'construction' you live in. As a tiny house is small and on wheels it doesnt fill the requirements  to turn a piece of land into a property. Once you have gotten yor property established you are allowed (to a certain extent) to have small buildings in connection to the main.

A good alternative would be to buy an existing property.

My guess is that there are some tiny houses in Sweden residing on 'pieces of land' that doesnt fill the requirements. Nothing to be recommended if you have any long time plans, as you can anytime can be ordered to take away your tiny house, even though its your own land.

If you have any interest in farming and selfsustainability, consider that there are huge differences in climate and property prices between the south and north of Sweden.
