Ground water level
« skrivet: 19 nov-15 kl 19:18 »
It seems the groundwater level has suddenly risen where I live. Over the course of a few days the septic tank filled up about 40cm above the inlet and outlet pipe, and coming out in the cellar.

I checked the drinking water well, and that is also way above normal level.

I also checked the avlopp tank of the house next door I also own, that hasn't been used for 2 years, and that tank was also full to just above the inlet and outlet pipe.

So what can I do about it? I can drop a pump in to reduce the level, but surely it will just refill from the exit pipe, as that is below the water level?

You must examine the source of the problem. Is there perhaps a beaver downstreams?

No beavers around here. In fact, it's quite a few km's to any water at all.

A couple other reasons for ground water rising:
1: Someone has obstructed the threshold point where the ground water can exit "downstream" causing it to rise. (Construction work),
2:Someone has blasted away or lowered a threshold point further up in the ground water system causing rising levels "downstream."
3: Increased rainfall during a long or short period of time.
4: Decreased evaporation from natural occurrences such as a forest.
5: The ground is temporarily unable to absorbe more water. Typical when clay sediment is "downstream" that takes time to let water through.
6: Ground water levels are rising due to closed wells for things like irrigation or drinking water.
7: Natural reasons has cleaned out a obstruction in the system or blocked a threshold.

Thanks for the replies.

Nothing has happened here of any note. It's fairly remote and surrounded by fields - not much forest, no groundworks or major building. We've had quite a bit of rain, but then that's fairly normal.

Assuming I can't do anything about the ground water level, what can i do about the overflowing tanks? Is it just a matter of dropping in a dränkbara pump and setting it to the correct water level so it pumps out the excess, and hope it doesn't fill up again too quickly?

After the septic tank, isn´t it some sort of leach drain there? It is after that you should pump the water of, or set the groundwater level to a level that permits the leach drain to work.

If you put a pump in the septic tank, you have to pump it to a recipient that could take it.

Well I found the stenkista about 75m away amongst a small piece of forest in the middle of a field behind the house. After digging down a little I found water about 75cm down, about 20cm further I found the pipe. So the groundwater has risen above the outlet and is back filling the avlopp brun. As the outlet from the brunn is about the same level as the inlet from the house, it is also back filling the pipes in the house untill t comes up from the cellar golvbrunn.

So it seems the whole avlopp system is below the ground water level. The level in the drinking water brunn is also about 80cm above normal, so this ties in with a raised water level.

But what to do?

Both sewer and well has been working for probably a long time, so something must have been changed. You have to find out what.
